A native of Fresno, Armida is a first generation, second language learner, born to migrant parents from Mexico. Armida graduated from California State University, Fresno with a B. A. in Sociology, and a Liberal Arts degree along with a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, from National University, Fresno. In the area of education, Armida has worked as a bilingual classroom teacher and administrator of State and Federal programs. Prior to her recent retirement, Armida supervised Adult Education and Parent Engagement Programs in the Golden Plains School District. In the area of community service, Armida has managed National AmeriCorps Service supporting at-risk students and implementing volunteer programs for nonprofit organizations.

Armida has served as Chairperson for the Board of Directors (BOD) of Arte Americas and Hinds Hospice. She currently chairs the BOD for Proteus Inc. and sits on the Executive BOD for the Association of Mexican American Educators, Fresno Chapter. Armida will be releasing her first bilingual children’s book in November titled “Brave Lolis Learners English” / “La Valiente Lolis Aprende Inglés”. Armida aims to write stories that meet young second language learners where they are, validate the reality they live through, and help them conquer their fears and/or insecurities. In her spare time, Armida enjoys spending time with her husband Leonard, family, friends, and her three dogs: Luna, a boy named Sue, and Cutie Boy. She also enjoys the arts, yoga, poetry, and writing.
