Centering Student Voices

The Centering Student Voices project gave students a voice and encouraged engagement in the classroom. With the use of a CatchBox, students were given a fun way of being heard. A CatchBox is a microphone encased in a soft cube that can be easily and safely thrown around the classroom without damaging the equipment or injuring a student. Having the throwable mic allowed students to visually see whose turn it was and allowed them to share when it was hard for them to raise their voice. Many students who were apprehensive about engaging in dialogue because they had trouble projecting their voice, became more comfortable and willing to participate in classroom discussions.
