David Mas Masumoto is a third-generation farmer of peaches, nectarines, grapes and raisins on an organic 80 acre farm south of Fresno. Mas is also an author, whose works include Heirlooms (2007), Letters to the Valley (2007), Four Seasons in Five Senses (2004), Harvest Son (1999), Epitaph for a Peach (1995) and most recently, Wisdom of the Last Farmer (2009). He is the winner of the UC Davis “Award of Distinction” from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 2003, and a founding member of California Association of Family Farmers. In June 2012, Masumoto was named by the White House to the National Council on the Arts, a prestigious position, joining other top authors, musicians and visual artists in advising the National Endowment for the Arts.
