As a retired school psychologist and administrator, Dr. Francine M. Farber combined her compassion for children with her professional skills to increase opportunities for Fresno youngsters. Together with her husband, Murray, she developed Steve’s Scholars to fund college scholarships; Mike’s Books to provide libraries in public housing sites; and an arts and drama program for 6,000 Fresno Unified fifth graders integrated with their social studies curriculum. Dr. Farber also used her leadership skills on behalf of broadening access to quality early childhood education in Fresno County. She served as president of the League of Women Voters of Fresno and currently serves on the boards of the League, Reading and Beyond and Fresno County Behavioral Health. Dr. Farber is a frequent contributor of opinion articles to The Fresno Bee.
