As a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, West Africa, Dr. Terry Allen was drawn to education and began his career teaching French in Clovis Unified School District. Armed with his master’s degree and doctorate, he moved into administration. His “career” as an arts educator began with a visit to the Getty Museum and training in Discipline-Based Art Education. Almost 20 years ago, he joined the Bonner Family Foundation and began to build arts education programs to benefit students. Dr. Allen is credited with initiating many foundational programs in Fresno County, including a symphony project; KVPT Art Is program host; the ArtSmart professional development program and numerous grants. He was named the 2004 California Arts Administrator of the Year and in 2006 he was awarded the Horizon Award for Arts Education. Dr. Allen is currently an admissions advisor at Fresno Pacific University.
