Pentathlon Adventure Challenge

Submitted by admin on

The Fresno County Office of Education’s 14th Annual Pentathlon Adventure Challenge brought a reality-based cooking concept into the mix by adding the first ever Pentathlon Team Iron Chef Competition. This cooking-war challenge sent ingredients, fun and teamwork flyin'!

The purpose of the competition was to empower 5th through 8th grade students to develop a healthy, active lifestyle. School student teams of four were invited to be creative with a recipe, get their hands dirty and compete against other county school-agers, with the goal of creating a healthy breakfast, complete with a healthy beverage and a quick and easy morning entree. Two secret ingredients finalized this challenge as teams were given (one day prior) these extra ingredients that had to be used in their recipe. Students worked in a fast-paced, timed competition, with no help from their coaches.

The final test was to present their creations to three judges. Congratulations to the team from Grizzly Academy! We would like to extend a special thank you to Kaiser Permanente for their contribution of all the food items, cooking equipment, materials, supplies and awards. Kaiser also set up a vendor booth with a Rethink your Drink campaign featuring the opportunity for all to taste-test three different fruit-inspired waters.
