Case Studies
Egg Layer Production
Through the Innovation Grant awarded by the Foundation, students in production classes at Coalinga High School were able to track and document the growth and development of Rhode Island Reds through the incubation and brooder phases. The chicks that were hatched are going to join the flock of birds at the high school to become part of the school's egg layer and future breeding operations.
Students utilize these birds as part of their Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) projects. These projects allow for students to gain various degrees and awards within the National FFA Organization. Because of one student's involvement in this project, and the generosity of the Foundation and Innovation Grant selection committee, Coalinga FFA was able to have one student recognized as a sectional winner and regional finalist in the Poultry Production area.
