Exanding Robotics in Rural Schools

The FCSS Robotics program continues to expand opportunities for students across Fresno County, introducing more young learners to the exciting possibilities of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Over the past year, the program welcomed seven new schools to FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and 11 new schools to FIRST LEGO League (FLL). In total, 23 schools, 25 FTC teams, and 191 students participated in competitive robotics, reflecting the growing interest in hands-on STEM learning.

A significant milestone was the establishment of the Central Valley FTC League, creating additional opportunities for local teams to compete, collaborate, and strengthen their engineering, design, and coding skills. FCSS also expanded its capacity to reach schools throughout the county through a newly established Engineering Department and a Mobile Learning Lab, bringing hands-on robotics experiences to more rural communities.

The Foundation @ FCOE plays an important role in helping make this growth possible by securing philanthropic investments that expand access to robotics education and provide students with opportunities to explore engineering and technology. Through grant funding and partnerships with generous community supporters, the Foundation helps FCSS provide resources and reach more students with experiences that might otherwise be unavailable to them.

As the robotics pathway continues to grow, students are developing technical skills, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities while discovering new interests and possibilities for their futures.

The Robotics program’s expansion is supported by PG&E and Chevron.
