How Does Your Garden Grow 2.0
Together with supplemental funding, the Innovation Grant enabled students at Clay Elementary to create a new garden space on campus. The grant funds were spent on fresh clean soil for the new planters, irrigation supplies, citrus trees, and a composting station. Second-grade students planted pumpkin seeds, which will produce pumpkins in the fall. Next school year, younger students will be able to participate in Garden Club during their morning recess where they will plant and cultivate flowers and vegetables. Students in grades 6-8 will have the option to participate in a Horticulture class as part of their electives. These students will be planting and maintaining flower beds, vegetable plots, learning plant propagation techniques and learning about composting and how to reuse food waste to benefit the garden.
