Kinder "Garden"

The Kinder “Garden” Community Garden project was designed to encourage a sense of community, cooperation and understanding at Pine Ridge Elementary. Students were introduced to basic gardening as one of their first educational experiences. Students planted a group of carefully selected crops in the spring for eventual harvest in the fall.

Every student was given the opportunity to enrich their minds with information on irrigation, soil, sun and the impact of weather on plants. Throughout the project, older students were paired with the younger students, to create a sense of mentorship, connection and responsibility. They built four large planter boxes, gathered bark from the burn scar areas on campus, gathered dirt, shoveled soil, planted various plants, and worked together with the upkeep/weeding, and in the fall, they hope to have a pumpkin patch.
