Phonics and More, Games Galore
Students across various grade levels at Pine Ridge Elementary participated in engaging learning opportunities that fostered both social connection and academic growth. The Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) elective brought together a close-knit group of students who might not have otherwise formed such unique friendships. This group became enthusiastic ambassadors, actively recruiting new members and expressing excitement about attending school on D&D days.
The program’s success led to student requests to expand it into an after-school club, and plans were made to increase both its size and the time it is offered. In addition, the targeted phonics games provided effective intervention for students needing extra support as well as those who benefit from diverse learning methods. Supplies for these games were loaned to the school library, extending their reach to students across all grade levels. The games proved so popular and successful that students eagerly requested more opportunities to play them. Together, these programs created dynamic, student-centered experiences that promoted collaboration, learning, and enthusiasm.
