Big Picture Educational Academy students built a 34-vine vineyard. They researched what vines to acquire and the type of trellis system to build by taking a field trip to the Viticulture and Enology Department and vineyards at Fresno State. Students planned out what materials would be needed and where to acquire them, and then developed a budget. Additionally, over 20 grapevines were donated by Duarte Nursery. Students worked together to pound 34, seven-foot tall steel stakes into the ground and then run 200 feet of stretched tension wire complete with turnbuckles to the end posts. They concluded the project with hooking up the PVC pipe to a valve for the drip line. Big Picture Educational Academy now has a functioning vineyard on campus.
