Career Skills Challenge

This past month the Career Skills Challenge competitions were held at various Fresno County high schools. The Career Skills Challenge is coordinated by the FCSS, Career Technical Education/ROP Department and sponsored in part by Chevron.

The Career Skills Challenge includes competitions in CAD Architectural, Crime Scene Investigation, Firefighting, Media Digital, Robotics, Welding, Desktop Publishing, Medical Terminology, Sports Medicine, Public Speaking, Ornamental Horticulture, Structural Engineering, Careers in Education, Floral Design, Salad Preparation, and more. Pictured above is a student participating in the Firefighting element of the competition. The firefighting competition involves teams of 4 students competing as individuals in a series of individual performance evaluations measuring relevant skills associated with the firefighting industry.

The five areas of the competition are:

  1. Charged Hose Advance
  2. SCBA / Roof Ladder Carry
  3. Make and Break
  4. Hose Hoist
  5. Pike Pole Tie Off

The Career Skills Challenge provides recognition and encouragement to high school students for their accomplishments in career skills, improves participation in educational programs, and encourages public support of career technical education.
