Students in the ROP Stagecraft program at Kingsburg High School were given an opportunity to create stage props using a vacuforming machine. A vacuforming machine is an essential piece of equipment in theater scene shops that allows for the creation of props, costume pieces and other set decorations. It works by placing objects on a table that is then covered in heated plastic. Holes in the table surface remove the air from the area and the heated plastic conforms to the shape of the object beneath it. Once cooled, this plastic mold can be painted on directly or used as a form for making a plaster, latex or silicone copy of the object. The props and pieces they created will be used on stage and in other community shows and programs, including the community theater and the plays coordinated by the elementary and middle school programs.
