The Guided Reading Group Project provided more equity in reading instruction. Through the implementation of this project, students received support in reading at their instructional reading level. The teacher made observations and provided targeted instruction during small group instruction and then the teacher helped students set individualized literacy goals. While the teacher worked with a small group, other students were reading or writing independently. Grant funds provided the class access to new books, access to the IXL program, and a flexible seating area.
