Multicultural Dance

The dance program at Orange Center Elementary expanded their program to include Hmong cultural dances, in addition to the existing Mexican Folklorico, creating the Multicultural Dance group. The goal of this project is to educate the school community on the multicultural influences that represent the student population.

Recycling for All

The high school and adult transition students within the SDC-SH program at Coalinga High School take campus beautification and recycling seriously. The Recycling for All gave students the opportunity to buy supplies needed for their recycling program. They purchased adaptive equipment such as gloves, carts, picker-uppers, and large trash bag that benefited their clean-up crew.

Virtual Reality in the Classroom

The Virtual Reality in the Classroom project provided a fully immersive learning experience for students at Alvina Elementary. A variety of applications helped students continue to enhance their learning experiences with this innovative technology. Students were able take virtual field trips across the world such as the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall, virtually build Anne Frank’s home and take a tour,

FIRST Lego League

The FIRST Lego League project at Big Creek Elementary allowed students to learn by interacting with objects or manipulatives. Touching, seeing, and moving things around is crucial to their learning. In First Lego league, students engage in hands-on STEM experiences, building confidence, growing their knowledge, and developing habits of learning.

Goal to 50 Lbs.

The Goal to 50 Lbs. project helped students at CTEC High School meet the OSHA requirement of being able to lift 50 pounds with safe proper form in preparation for their future work in the industry. In the real world, the work activities in commercial construction and manufacturing fields require strength and the ability to lift heavy materials.

Photography Club

Two ATP classrooms at Sutherland Center came together to form the Sutherland Center Photography Club for this project. Students received lessons about photography where they learned about the parts of a camera, how to take pictures, and different types of photography.

Self Pride

Students in transitional kindergarten at Goldenrod Elementary learned the concepts of self-pride, self-love, self-awareness, and self-care with Budsies Pillow Dolls. The Budsies Pillow Dolls are 18-inch dolls made to look like them using an actual picture.

Launching Learning to New Heights

The Launching Learning to New Heights project at Reagan Elementary School granted students the opportunity to bring Newton’s Laws of Motion to life through a truly meaningful experience with rockets. Students created a rocket, tested various rockets with different engines, and developed a deep understanding of Newton’s Laws of Motion.

Produce Stands

Students at Sunnyside High School designed and built produce stands to be used at Fresno Unified events including Ideafest and the annual AgScience plant sale. The produce stands will also be used on an ongoing basis at two school sites. For the Produce Stands project, students submitted design concepts that were rated by other students.

FCSS Kids Day

FCSS Kids Day is a huge community event that brings together hundreds of supporters to help host a wonderful day to recognize and celebrate students with moderate to severe disabilities, ages birth to 22.

Career Skills Challenge

The Career Skills Challenge was held this month with exciting student competitions. This is a hands-on, career-focused event involving 40 competitions in diverse vocations such as medical terminology, welding, crime scene investigation and sports medicine.
